I'm Jackie Suckling
My career began traditionally as a trainee secretary at the UK Head Office of the electricity industry. Through hard work, I became one of the most sought-after secretaries, earning a promotion in 1991 to Executive Assistant to the Privatisation Committee during a pivotal transformation in the sector.
As technology reshaped the workplace, I took voluntary redundancy, exploring self-employment alongside my partner Mick. We tried brochure distribution and multi-level marketing, but neither suited our introverted nature. I later returned to corporate life, working with British Airways and a major UK power station, once again rising to the top PA role on site.
Despite years of success, concerns about retirement loomed. I longed for more time at home, walking my dogs and pursuing lifelong dreams but they always felt out of reach. Then, everything changed. A video introduced me to a new opportunity, one built on digital skills, flexible learning, and the ability to create a home-based business. My entrepreneurial spirit reignited.
Today, Mick and I are building a digital business that aligns with our values and lifestyle while helping others do the same. If you’re wondering whether it’s too late to pivot - it isn’t.
I'm Mick Suckling
I began my career at 16, entering the mechanical engineering trade through a formal apprenticeship with a high-tech manufacturing company. Over the years, I’ve built a career in various engineering sectors, including ultra-high vacuum systems and precision manufacturing. My experience spans roles in cleanroom assembly, product design, and managing large engineering teams. Most recently, I worked as a condition monitoring lead engineer at a major UK power station, overseeing critical equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Alongside my career, I’ve always been entrepreneurial. I co-founded a precision engineering company with my father and brother, which operated successfully for 12 years before closing due to a decline in demand. Throughout my career, I’ve continuously sought ways to supplement my income, learning valuable lessons along the way, even when some ventures didn’t succeed.
Today, we are in the process of building a sustainable business on our own terms, gradually bridging the gap to a fulfilling retirement. Our journey exemplifies the power of persistence, adaptability, and the pursuit of lifelong learning.
